Craig's Hut Four Day Rides 4 days/3 nights
Day 1 - We travel by vehicle to Mirimbah at the base of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling. From here we ride out through the head waters of the Delatite River crossing the river 15 times as we follow the river spur to the top of Mt Stirling, surrounded by towering Mountain Ash soaring up to reach the sun whilst shadowing the lush tree ferns on the forest floor below. After lunch we continue up the river spur where the Ash give way to the gnarled Snow Gums and we can look across and see part of Mt Buller Resort off in the distance before we pay homage to the single snow gum that lives a lonely existence on the alpine meadows of the summit of Mt Stirling. From here we make our way to our base camp at Razorback.
Day 2 - After a hearty breakfast, we take the time to have a bit of a stretch to get those muscles working before we mount up for our trip to the infamous Craig's Hut. Along the way we stop to take in the breathtaking views. On arrival at Craig's Hut our support team have lunch ready and waiting for us, always a welcome sight after a good mornings ride! After lunch and a chance to explore the Hut and take some photos, we're back on our horses and headed back to our next camp down in the beautiful King Valley where the camp fire is inviting, the drinks are on ice and the pre-dinner nibbles are waiting.
Day 3 - We ride up out of the valley on to Mountain Number 3 over the rugged ridge line of Razorback past the Pinnacle and Number 3 Refuge Hut. From here we enjoy a relaxing ride back to our camp at Razorback.
Day 4 - We ride out to Mountain Number 3 over the rugged ridge line of Razorback past the Pinnacle and Number 3 Refuge Hut. From here we descend from the Snow Gums down through the Woolly Butts (the tallest trees in the world) to the fern gullies where we stop for a well-earned lunch break. After lunch it's back on our horses for the ride back to Merrijig following the ridge that dissects the Delatite River and Buttercup Creek. As we approach the end of our adventure, we pause on a hilltop to look back in amazement across the wondrous mountains that we have traversed during the last 2 days, before making our final descent down to our starting point at Merrijig Lodge.
