Craig's Hut,Razorback Weekend Ride |
Day 1
We depart from Merrijig Lodge on Saturday morning traveling by vehicle to half way up Mt Stirling (Telephone Box Junction). From here we ride out through the majestic Alpine Ash bush into the marked contrast of the twisted, multi-coloured Snow Gums, up over the summit of Mt Stirling and on to Craig's Hut where we enjoy the magnificent views over lunch.
After lunch we continue our trek to our camp at Razorback where our supply vehicle has already got the camp set up and the billy on the boil. After a hearty meal we settle down to relax around the fire and enjoy the evening.
Day 2
On Sunday morning, after a bush breakfast, we ride out to Mountain Number 3 over the rugged ridgeline of Razorback past the Pinnacle and Number 3 Refuge Hut.
From here we descend from the Snow Gums down through the Wooly Butts (the tallest trees in the world) along Burnt Hut Spur to the fern gullies where we stop for a well-earned lunch break.
After lunch it's back on our horses for the ride back to Merrijig following the ridge that dissects the Delatite River and Buttercup Creek.
As we approach the end of our adventure, we pause on a hilltop to look back in amazement across the wondrous mountains that we have traversed during the last 2 days, before making our final descent down to our starting point at Merrijig Lodge.
