Cup Weekend Adventure Rides |
Departing from Mirimbah, we head out on our trusty steeds, up the Delatite River, popular amongst trout fisherman, crossing the river 15 times and providing some cooling relief on a hot summer's day.
We travel amongst the towering Mountain ash and luscious tree ferns then making our way up the river spur through the Alpine Ash to the gnarled Snow Gums and alpine meadows on the summit of Mt Stirling before making our way to our base camp at Razorback.
The next day we ride to Mt Stirling, stopping to take in the breathtaking views and visit the infamous Craig's Hut. After a relaxing lunch stop, we are Razorback bound where the drinks are on ice and the shower hot and waiting.
Last day we ride home to Merrijig via Mt Number 3 and Burnt Hut Spur with a relaxing lunch stop along the way.

We depart from Merrijig Lodge on Saturday morning travelling by vehicle to Mirimbah at the base of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling. From here we ride out through the head waters of the Delatite River crossing the river 15 times as we follow the river spur to the top of Mt Stirling, surrounded by towering Mountain Ash soaring up to reach the sun whilst shadowing the lush tree ferns on the forest floor below.
It is hard to believe that just 30 years ago you could drive down this amazing track that is now only accessible by horse or foot. We arrive at King Saddle where we enjoy the tranquillity of the bush over lunch.
We then start our trek up to Razorback where our supply vehicle has already got the camp set up and the billy on the boil. After a hearty meal we settle down to relax around the fire and enjoy the evening.
Next day we head off for lunch at the infamous Craig's Hut where once again we take in the breathtaking views. As you look out over the vast expanse of mountains, you feel like you are on top of the world. After a bit of a rest and lots of photos, we mount up again to start our trel back to our base camp at Razorback Hut.
Last day we ride home to Merrijig via Mt Number 3 and Burnt Hut Spur with a relaxing lunch stop along the way.
